The European Union (EU) and Viet Nam yesterday reached an agreement in
principle for a free-trade agreement (FTA) after nearly three years of
intense negotiations.
Market shares of Viet Nam''s major exports to the
European Union (EU) are expected to surge as exporters will enjoy
preferential treatment under the bloc''s Generalised System of
Preferences (GSP).
Viet Nam did not consider its accession to the World Trade Organisation
as a final destination, but simply a step in the whole process of
economic reform towards facilitating trade and investment.
Vietnamese officials and the general public need to better understand
EU affairs, including the functioning of its institutions in the context
of current events, so as to strengthen EU-Viet Nam relations, a senior
diplomat said yesterday.
